Young earth creationists have produced many books, which have two purposes. First, the books are intended to strengthen those who already believe in a young earth. Overall, they do a good job meeting this goal. The other goal is to present a viable scientific case for a young earth, and convince everyone else that the earth is young. In this goal they fail, because their scientific arguments are completely void of any credible evidence.
On this page you will find rebuttals to young earth creation science books, as well as links to off-site rebuttals. Below is a listing of the books we have reviewed.
Latest Review: Dismantling the Big Bang
After Eden - This book by Henry Morris III attempts to tie the young earth creation science account to the cross, making the claim that the cross only makes sense with the young earth interpretation. It is another desperate attempt to shore up the defenses against old earth creationism.
Already Compromised - The claim of this book is that Christian colleges, who are supposed to uphold Bible, are compromised by old earth beliefs. Jonathan Baker of the blog Questioning Answers In Genesis takes a look at the claims by young earth authors' Ken Ham and Greg Hall.
Already Gone - This book by Ken Ham examines why young people are leaving the church. Blaugmenting Your Christian Worldview author Joe Myzia examines the claims of this book and presents an alternative view.
The Answers Book - This book by Ken Ham and others tries to give answers to 20 common questions about the age of the earth. However, it presents no credible evidence that supports young earth creation science.
Battle for the Beginning - This book by popular Christian speaker John MacArthur argues that belief in a young earth is essential to the key doctrines in the Bible. The book itself is full of emotional appeals, without presenting any real evidence for a young earth.
Battle for the Beginning - An off-site review (opens a new window).
The Beginnings Under Attack - This book by Bill Sheffield is similar in nature to After Eden. It argues for believing the biblical account of creation (i.e. the "young earth version"), strictly on the basis of emotion. It is not intended as a scientific work.
Biblical Creationism - by Henry Morris. This book is a look, from a young earth creation science perspective, at all the references to creation throughout the Bible. It presents no proof of a young earth, and shows that young earth ideas, which have become popular in the twentieth century, are mostly additions to the Scriptures which are not supported by the Bible.
Dismantling the Big Bang - Book by Alex Williams and John Hartnett. Review by Mike Hore.
Is the Big Bang Biblical? And 99 Other Questions - by John Morris. This book seeks to answer 100 of the most asked questions at the Institute for Creation Research.
Bones of Contention - by Marvin Lubenow. This book argues against the evolutionary evidence for the hominid species. The author makes critical mistakes in his analysis. An off-site review (opens a new window).
Frozen In Time - by Michael Oard. This book from 2004 seeks to explain the mammoths in light of a Flood-caused Ice Age. It attempts to explain that there never was multiple ice ages, and geologists are interpreting the evidence wrong. While bringing up some valid points, it fails to offer any convincing evidence against the uniformitarian interpretation of multiple glaciations.
Grand Canyon: Monument to Catastrophe - This book is the cornerstone of young earth flood geology and the Grand Canyon. This book tries to show that the Grand Canyon supports Noah's world-wide flood, and a young earth. The only thing "catastrophic" about this book is the bad science it contains.
The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved! - by Ken Ham. A popular book written for the youth of the young earth creation science movement, who will accept the authority figure of Mr. Ham, and his arguments, without questioning the truthfulness of his statements. For anyone willing to go deeper and examine the evidence, they will discover that Mr. Ham has not told the whole truth.
The Mythology of Modern Dating Methods - This book is an assault upon radiometric dating by John Woodmorappe. In an article titled How Can Woodmorappe Sell Us a Bill of Goods if He Doesn't Know the Costs?, Dr. Kevin Henke reveals the errors of this book. Additional arguments against this book are in these four articles.
Chopping a Title Hides the Truth
Noah's Ark: A Feasibility Study - Off-site review by Glenn Morton. This John Woodmorappe book pretends to answer questions about how Noah's Ark could survive during a global flood, and how it could support all the world's animals. Woodmorappe (author of Noah's Ark:..) provides a rebuttal, but fails to answer the accusations, instead choosing to heap burning coals upon Morton with divisive language in the hopes that his followers will ignore Morton (see Morton's Demon).
Old Earth Creationism On Trial: The Verdict Is In - Review by Ruben Baron. This book is a critique of old earth creationism from Answers in Genesis authors' Tim Chaffey and Jason Lisle. It is supposed to examine old earth creationism from the perspective of a court, with the old earth viewpoint presented, then cross-examined by the evidence. However, the authors' young earth bias is evident from page one.
Refuting Compromise - This young earth book by Jonathan Sarfati seeks to paint old earth believers, especially Dr. Hugh Ross, as compromising scripture. Dr. Ross does not compromise scripture...he re-interprets it based on scientific evidence. Dr. Ross still firmly believes in the authority and inerrancy of scripture...and an old earth.
